Join Emily Barton as she interviews fiction writer Kirsten Bakis at the Bay Village Branch of the Cuyahoga Public Library. Kirsten is the author of the contemporary classic Lives of the Monster Dogs, and will be in Cleveland to read from and talk about her new novel, King Nyx.
On Saturday, October 12th 2019, I’ll have the pleasure of serving as the keynote speaker at the Lorain Public Library Writers’ Conference. I’ll be talking about “Building Character(s)” as well as doing a group exercise and answering questions. My talk begins at 9:45 A.M. The conference will be at the Lorain PL’s Main Branch, 351 W. 6th St., Lorain, OH.

As part of “One Book, One New Paltz,” I’ll be leading a seminar, which has been rescheduled for Thursday, 5/3/2018 at 11:00 in the morning, about the choices Philip Roth makes in writing his counterfactual historical novel The Plot Against America. (My own book The Book of Esther takes a similarly counterfactual approach to the same historical period, using different methods and arriving at different outcomes.)
