As part of “One Book, One New Paltz,” I’ll be leading a seminar, which has been rescheduled for Thursday, 5/3/2018 at 11:00 in the morning, about the choices Philip Roth makes in writing his counterfactual historical novel The Plot Against America. (My own book The Book of Esther takes a similarly counterfactual approach to the same historical period, using different methods and arriving at different outcomes.)
The seminar will meet in Room 418 of the Student Union.
The Plot Against America was a great book when it came out in 2004, and it has only become more eerily prescient as time as has gone, especially considering our current political situation in the US. If you are local to the New Paltz area and would like to come join me, I’d be delighted to see you there. Please come with your copy of the book, prepared to talk about the choices Roth makes in tweaking history, and perhaps with a passage you are interested in exploring. Here’s the flyer for all the events.
